Behind the Bandit
In the first of this occasional series we'll be seeing what the Bandit's get up to away from the golf course. This week we start with Bandits President elect Griff who gives us his insight into home making and those little decorative touches that makes all the difference. Speaking to Griff in his sumptuous lounge with numerous fluffy cushions he said "I've had an interest in interior design for a few years now, I believe it really is those little touches, the attention to detail, that makes a house a home, some may call it nest building but I don't see anything wrong with that" We started discussing the lavender candle on the mantlepiece, Griff explained "I just love scented candles, I've got one for every occasion, the lavender one was required following my amazing victory in the Past Captains cup I knew I'd need something that soothed me as I was still buzzing and the lavender hit the spot and I slept like a baby, but that said if we want to get lively at any time I can just light my Linden Tree candle and anything could happen" Talking about his fireplace Griff said "yes we find the hole under the mantelpiece handy for storing our garden Jenga game, we left it out the other week and the box got wet and ruined but problem solved now!"

Moving into the kitchen Griff couldn't wait to show me his novelty fruit bowls and biscuit tin. "We decided to get the names of the fruit on the bowl following an occasion when I bit into an avocado thinking it was a pear and I nearly broke my front teeth! Well thats not going to happen again now we have individual bowls for each fruit. The rustic charm of the bowl is in contrast to the clean crispness of the biscuit tin which is an exact copy of a Huntley and Palmer 1996 tin which I had specially commissioned after seeing one at a recent visit to Highgrove, I saw it and knew I needed one, although it cost a few thousand it was well worth it and keeps my Hob Nobs so fresh, it was money well spent as we are no longer throwing away stale biscuits so eventually it'll pay for itself"

Turning around we focused on the dining table which had both Pot Pourri and scented candles on "you can't have too many nice smells around the house" said Griff and continued "Pot Pourri is so versatile I like to change it to represent the season, during the summer we had a simply divine Summer Meadow and Diesel which reminded me of those sunny day commutes to Oxford, I've now refreshed the bowl with an Autumnal scent of Blackberry, dried hops and bonfires, but I can't wait for the best season where the Christmas cinnamon, blood orange and Port scent will be all around the Griff household, I've already been to Home Bargains and bought two bags but I've been told I need to wait until December before putting it out - I don't know if I can wait that long!" Discussing the choice and colour of the curtains he said "I had to put those up as I always walk around naked and the dog walkers in the field were complaining, but I did pleat them myself so I'm very pleased" On that note I thanked Griff and left him to his smoothie. It was a great insight of the man who will one day be the President of the Bandits. Future topics in this occasional series will be:
Tonto - my love of modern languages
Ash - The trials of being a fashion icon
Nice Guy - My rubber and latex fettish
